- Sealants- protective plastic coatings placed on back teeth to block decay from being able to set in. These are generally quick and easy! See Jaylen, one of our 2 year old patients, is getting sealants done (pictured here).
- Fluoride- a mineral which helps toughen teeth and make them less susceptible to cavities.
- Topical fluoride- nonprescription found in toothpaste, rinses and professionally applied foams.
- Systemic- prescription item that is based on child's age, cavity history and water source ( Palm Coast and St. Augustine do not fluoridate their water supply)
- Great Oral Hygiene- effective daily brushing and flossing is a must. Electric toothbrushes are more efficient than manual toothbrushes. Remember if you don't floss you miss 2 of the 5 sides of a tooth (40%).
- Minimize snacking and between meals sweet drinks (to include juices).
- Custom professionally fabricated mouth guards for children who play contact sports.
- Regular dental checkups and preventive treatments to include:
- Oral hygiene evaluations
- Professional cleanings and fluoride treatments
- Cavity checks
- Oral cancer screens
- Tooth development and alignment checks
