Local Pediatric Dentist Leads “Give Kids A Smile” in St.Augustine, Florida
Practice Provides Free Oral Health Care to Underserved Children
As part of the American Dental Association’s Give Kids A Smile Day (GKAS), St. Augustine area Pediatric Dentist Dr.Matthew McLellan leads a group of volunteer dental professionals to provide a day of free care to underserved children. Each year, the Give Kids A Smile (GKAS) program successfully treats more than half a million kids at approximately 2,000 locations nationwide.
Dr. Matt and the other volunteer dental professionals will provide free oral exams, cleanings, x-rays and fluoride treatments to underserved children ages 5 to 12 years old at 1100-2 S. Ponce de Leon Blvd. on Friday February 3rd 2012. from 9 am to 2pm.
Dr. Matt arranged the logistics and volunteer assignments to ensure that the children in the immediate area received needed dental care on this special day.
Nearly one in four children, aged two to eleven years old has untreated cavities in their baby teeth, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Give Kids A Smile is held annually to:
• Provide free dental services to local, qualifying children from underserved families
• Raise awareness of the epidemic of untreated dental disease occurring here and across the country and
• Raise awareness of the need to build local public and private partnerships to increase access to oral health care to solve this crisis.
